Products > EC145 overview
In operations on land and at sea, American Eurocopter’s EC145 is at the top of its class in the medium-sized, twin-engine helicopter category.
Since its introduction into the U.S. marketplace, the EC145 has established itself as a multi-mission leader. It is the undisputed platform of choice in the air medical services sector, while also demonstrating its off-shore capabilities in the Gulf of Mexico and service with the U.S. Army in the militarized Light Utility Helicopter version.
Equipped with twin Turbomeca Arriel 1E2 engines that ensure a fast cruise speed of 133 kts. and a service ceiling of 17,200 ft., the EC145 has the “dash” capability for emergency airlift missions when minutes often mean the difference between life and death. The rugged Arriel powerplants guarantee reliable flight performance in temperatures ranging from -45 to +50 degrees Celsius.
Flying is made easier and safer with the helicopter’s advanced MEGHAS glass cockpit, which is available in an optional IFR configuration with digital autopilot for both single and dual pilot applications. The EC145’s large cabin has volume for nine passengers; or two patients and litters, plus up to three medical personnel and their equipment.
The growing list of EC145 air medical services customers reads like a “who’s who” of MEDEVAC operators in the United States, including: Pennsylvania’s EmergyCare/LifeStar; University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center’s LifeFlight; Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center’s MedLink Air; Allegheny General Hospital’s LifeFlight AMS; STAT MedEvac, Travis County STAR Flight; Vanderbilt LifeFlight, and Florida’s Lee County Emergency Medical Services.
In numerous instances, EC145s are replacing or supplementing previous-generation BK117 or BO105 helicopters in medical airlift fleets, underscoring customer satisfaction with – and loyalty to – the Eurocopter product line over the long-term.
